Two factor Authentication in IoT

I was wondering if somebody would have experience in two-factor authentication using PKI smart cards in the Internet of Things and help me in this regard. (Any platforms could be helpful, but my focus is on IRIS WSN platform.)

Thank you for your answer. I'm familiar with the concept. I'm working on implementing a hardware module for using PKI smart cards for IRIS platforms. I need some APIs or libraries. Do you have any experience in this regard?
