Tunnel excavation exposes joint systems and ground water may be leaked through the exposed joint systems to the tunnel leading to the drawdown of groundwater table. What is the best way to estimate such groundwater inflow?
Measuring the leaked water from probeholes is off course the method that is being used in tunnel industry. However, systematic probehole drilling is not carried out in many occation. Sudden water inflow may occur, which may lead to difficult tunnelling situations.
Because rock mass surrounding the tunnel is fractured and water leaks through the joints, use of the discrete fracture network (DFN) approach is a good choice.
