I’d like to examine the relationship between time and distance moved by animals. Rather than use the serial\consecutive steps, I was thinking of calculating all the pair-wise distances and differences in time between all observations.

For examples if I have 4 observations:

1.            XY: 10, TIME: 0

2.            XY: 15, TIME: 4

3.            XY: 30, TIME: 14

4.            XY: 33, TIME: 27

I would derive the following points:

1.            ΔXY:5, ΔTIME:4

2.            ΔXY:20, ΔTIME:14

3.            ΔXY:23, ΔTIME:27

4.            ΔXY:15, ΔTIME:10

5.            ΔXY:18, ΔTIME:23

6.            ΔXY:3, ΔTIME:13

Does that make sense, any references? are there particular relationships associated with movement modes or behaviour?
