Does anyone know of any research out there looking at the average time it takes to acquire English language proficiency for native Arabic language speakers? I realize there are many factors that play in to acquisition, but I was wondering if anyone has come across any studies in general. Thank you!

I have done quite a number of studies using the Multiliteracies framework which works well with second/foreign language learner. Please check out the articles I have uploaded. The duration it takes for students to acquire the English language is highly dependent on the contact hours to a certain extent.

Time can be determined in ideal conditions. Since so many factors are involved in the acquisition process, we may phase it out based upon students' roles, teachers' roles, curriculum, learner focus, assessment of learning and finally evaluation. You may like to see TESOL benchmarks and DIY model to see quality characteristics and standards. I hope it will help.
SLA is a topic that interests me a lot! Specifically the time that takes a learner to produce oral utterances. I think that a common misconception is to think that language will spontaneously emerge in more advanced levels. This is not so, learners need to start producing the target language from the very beginning. Otherwise, this production will become more and more difficult because they are not used to using the language.
In my context, and according to my observations, English language students start speaking English after more than five years of intensive studies and others need even more time to do this.
