Participation of farmers and agricultural interested in working with all interested of true information and knowledge has been validated a simple way and in a quickly time and the participation of others
But wouldn't this kind of field do better with a specialised portal for participation of interested parties, rather then the use of social media? A topic based discussion board, an open knowledge base portal based on wiki, etc...
Specialized pages, knowledge bases (that could be based on wiki type portals), etc.
Knowledge bases are a good source of initial information, but almost always, one need to do further study elsewhere.
Wiki pages are useful because many people can edit them, contribute their knowledge, append or correct and keep data up to date. Also, reference lists can be made and certain "less familiar" topics and terms can be extracted and referenced to a dedicated page/article.
This type of service can grow very fast and become hard to keep up with and to manage and also, the validity of submitted data can be questioned, just as it is on every wiki. Maybe some sort of restrain and recension would be needed.
But regardless of which platform is used, establishing a specialized set of pages/articles/data sets is in this case better then social media network being utilized in a way where some aspects of it are used and most aren't. That can eventually make the system grow to have distractions and to sway from its primary purpose.
