I am trying to get scores of overall economic efficiency in farming, please suggest me what are the main input and output variable which I should consider?
On input side. farmer profile including education & household income, land size and number of parcels, water availability, connectivity to road, electricity access, input use like fertiliser etc,
Output Side - Yield (productivity), Income etc.
(Staff Qualifications) as against their technical know how and output of work
(Farming Tools/Technologies)
Thorough inventory of farming tools, machinery and equipment and their productivity levels as well as maintenance.
(Production) Cultivation methods as against farm proceeds/yield, harvesting procedures, postharvest management strategies
(Marketing Strategies) retailing/wholesaling
In addition to the input variables mentioned above, I suggest you consider the access and use of rural technical assistance, if this service is available in the region/country you are studying.
Also, another interesting input variable you could look at is the cooperativism level of the farmers.
Several studies point to these two variables as significantly important for economic efficiency.
