Hi all, how would you go about customizing a student satisfaction survey to a new region or country?
Would it fall under mixed methods?
Would you start qualitatively with selected faculty?
Would you use quant methods?
Would you involve students as well?
The goal is to create/customize such a survey for a new region, alongside creating a maturity model.
Please share your experiences! Tx
If you already have a survey instrument, then the first step would be to get a translation, as well as a "back translation" into the original language (in order to check the adequacy of the translation). After that, you could "cognitive interviewing" to get potential participants to evaluate the items for you (see Gordon Willis, Cognitive Interviewing" A How to Guide).
The main reason why you would want to start with qualitative data would be to create a whole new measure. If you did start with a qualitative study, then that would be mixed methods.
Thanks David....is it enough to stop at the Qual level? why woud I need Quant? is there a need to validate this questionnaire with a pool of students as well?
Whether you stop at the Qual level depends on what your research goals are. If you going to use the questionnaire with students, then I would do cognitive interviewing with students.
