I had some problem in ID this bone-element. It has a pattern of tubercle-like dots on the outer surface. Does anyone have any idea on what it could be?
Does not look like a Semionotiformes to me. Tubercles would be larger. You may want to ask Lionel Cavin in Geneva. Is there any trace of a central canal on the distal or proximal face? It may remind me of a chimaera dorsal fin spine, but from pictures, it is difficult to be sure
Gilles Cuny: thank You very much for Your comment. Actually, I do not know, that how possible is it to find a Semionotiform remains in the Santonian of the Carpathian Basin :( As far as I know, the group is not typical in that era. I guess, I already showed this element to Lionel Cavin (with dozens of other problematic elements), but unfortunately, the remain is not so informative... As far as I can tell, there is not central canal, however, it does need some more preparation.
It does not seem to be a pterosaur bone (see https://www.researchgate.net/publication/257674099_The_Last_Pterosaurs_First_Record_from_the_Uppermost_Maastrichtian_of_the_Tremp_Syncline_Northern_Spain). You should look at its histology. Best, Fabio
