I am trying to install R extension on my SPSS 26 for Mac. I already downloaded R (version 3.6, as previous versions are not supported by Catalina). I looked for the R36 extension on the Extension Hub, but it says it requires SPSS 27. I installed the R35 extension, but I couldn’t finish the Configuration with the version 3.6 of R. I’m getting this message: Warnings R 3.5 was not found in this location: /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources. Please select a different location, or install R 3.5 on this computer and set this path again.
how do I install R extension on SPSS 26 in a MacOS- Catalina?

What is an R extension?
You should tell us more why do you need it. I used MacOS on the past.
Did you logon as administrator on your shell? With su or sudo
Well this is also a hole vulnerability for your OS. You never know what you install. You should rather use windows and MacOS for Multimedia.

SPSS extension for R provides you with tools you need to start developing custom R applications for use with IBM SPSS Statistics. R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphic. It provides a wide variety of statistical (linear and nonlinear modelling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, …) and graphical techniques, and is highly extensible. A lot of mathematical functions not included in SPSS are included in R.
It is unfortunately known since years that the R plugin for SPSS is a nightmare to install, as you needed a specific version of R for each version of SPSS. R is still a very active project and new versions are regularly published to stay in line with the evolutions of the OS's for example. Catalina introduces (even) more security barriers, and needs indeed a recent version of R.
On the other hand, SPSS is an old stat package (first version in 1968). Even if it is still used and available, its developement is almost dead (last version in 2017 I guess).
So, I'm afraid you will not find a solution to your problem...
Is it not possible for you to switch to R ? Packages exist to read SPSS data files directly in R (spss.get() from the Hmisc package if I'm right).
There is obvioulsy a learning curve to adopt R, but the ecosystem offers a lot of flexibility and possibilities. It is also open source, portable ... and free. I did the effort a couple of years ago and I'm very happy with this choice so far.
