I want to simulate an ad hoc network.
I actually just got 6 or more sensor nodes in a wireless network using RF band switching frequency and the proper working together I'm sure the network.
It would be better if the software GUI programming because it takes time to learn a language that I do not. At least it's free, and you could have a lot of training database

I would recommend ns2/ns3. For GUI, there nam. You can visualize the nodes as well as the traffic. You need to just create a topology of the network with six nodes. For that one needs to write a tcl script and attach agents for the traffic.
Reading a tutorial on ns (e.g. Mark Gries tutorial) may help.

Ns2 isn't so difficult,
you can start by samples given in the ns2-allinone.../ns2..../tcl/ex
