Thanks Raghad, Louis and Christian. What I’m mostly asking is whether or not I need a permit since I would be exporting a biological material. The actual shipping itself I’m not too worried about, but I don’t want it held up in customs. Any suggestions? Thanks again for your help.

I think it is most easy and convenient to do this by courier in a foam box on ice. We did this in the past and mentioned 'water samples' on the package list. Even dry ice is possible but this should than clearly be indicated. To be sure, you can add a letter in the package from your supervisor (with official stamps and everything) that the package contains watersamples without commercial value to be analysed. We never experienced problems so far.
