Hi, I am unsure if I should use a simple regression or correlation for a research study which examines self-efficacy regarding technology integration and teaching specific content which is a yes or no question. The SE data is a scale, comprised of 3 subscales, around 6 likert scale questions for each subscale. the subscale scores are averaged and reported. Any further guidance is greatly appreciated!
In both cases (regression or correlation), the formula is exactly the same y=ax+b or in your case DV=a*IV+intercept. So, the standardised regression coefficient is the same as Pearson's correlation coefficient (the "a" in the equation). Prediction is just theoretical (you suggest what is the DV, what is the IV) but at the end this is the same. After, what I said only works for the case of Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression.
