I dont know how many PhD interview you attended in india or outside india. From my point of view,

1. There are many opening for PhD in IITs, NITs, etc.

2. Try to sit and browse all NIT, IIT website for project opportunities, fund project.

3. Try to write NET, GATE exams which are help you and you will get preference

4. twice the year all institute will call PhD, so be aware and prepare for written, technical rounds

No need to worry so much, stop wasting time on that, utilize the time on studying in your area, read articles, download it, talk with professors where your previously worked or studied.

I am saying again, Hardwork never fails.

PhD in Mechanical engineering is a wide area. You should take up a small focussed area of your interest in Mechanical engineering and first do a thorough literature survey. Based on that you should write a proposal and send the proposal to the experts in the field. You can do collaborative research work with the profs of IITs and NITs. Your Institution will also support as you will be getting publications in your university's name. This will be welcome by the management. Your problem can be easily solved by yourself if you have aggressive interest. You need not have to ask others as to how PhD to be pursued as you are already a teacher. With best wishes

Presentation of the project :

Among the newly developed surface treatments, Laser Shot Peening (LSP) is an alternative technique to conventional shot peening techniques which induces greater depth of residual stresses into material surfaces enhancing the fatigue strength of the treated components. However, for all the shot peening treatments, the compressive residual stresses generated by surface processing techniques are not stable during cyclic loading; they relax. If the cyclic loading amplitude is high enough, a large amount of compressive residual stress decreases at the surface layer during the early stage of the fatigue life. As a result, shot peening treatments are more efficient for a high cycle regime than for a low cycle regime. In industry, two configurations of LSP are used: (i) small impacts, large overlapping without any coating and (ii) large impacts, low overlapping with coating. The first configuration involves thermal and mechanical effects while the latter only involves mechanical effects. Consequently, the distribution of the residual stress beneath the material surface is different for the two configurations.

In order to optimize laser shock process for enhancing the fatigue strength, a better understanding of the relationship between the LSP parameters and the induced residual stress field is needed.

Objectives of the Post-doc work :

This post-doc aims at investigating the numerical simulation of LSP in order to determine precisely the distribution of residual stresses induced by the process, for high cycle fatigue strength assessment on specimens and components in aluminum and titanium alloys. Numerical simulation of LSP involves the propagation of elastic and plastic waves in a very high strain rate regime for which micro-inertia effects are important. Since material behaviors are not standard at such strain rates, comparisons and then calibrations of various material constitutive models will be first performed. Special attention will be paid to cyclic behaviors which are needed when there is important overlapping of shots. Numerical predictions of residual stresses will then be performed for various loading conditions and will be assessed with residual stress measurements carried out at PIMM on aluminum and titanium specimens subjected to LSP. Relationships between Laser Peening process parameters (power density, overlapping, coating), surface roughness changes and residual stress distribution will be analyzed.

Application :

This full-time Post-Doc position is available as of January 2018. We are looking for a highly-motivated young scientist with a PhD degree in computational solid mechanics and a good knowledge on both material constitutive models and finite element analysis. A knowledge of Abaqus software would be appreciated but this is not mandatory.

If you have a desire to pursue PhD within India. Try to get a seat in IIT's and NIT's.

Two ways are there for this. (Both are necessary)

1. Qualify GATE or UGC- NET then the chances would be better.

2. Build a research profile. Publish some important findings in ur research area. Attend and present articles in several conferences. This way u can build up ur profile.

And when any notification is given for PhD positions in IIT's or NIT's make sure u prepare hard and qualify the written exam these premier institutes conduct. Then if u qualify the exam and called for an oral interview, ur research profile plays a major role. Preparing a Research Proposal will also be necessary.

Be prepared with the above things, I'm sure you will be selected for a PhD position.
