The question is asked in the context of the book on nudging by Thaler & Sunstein, and numerous review articles (Jeung, de Ridder, Leonard...). It is not clear to me whether the same underlying psychological mechanisms can be called upon in these two cases. I am concerned with various technical means of effecting behaviour change (not just arranging meals so that those healthier are more easily reached). Some of these technologies operate upon explicit choices (watch TV OR BETTER listen to music), others operate upon some "resistive" ideas (BETTER DON'T watch TV now). The complement of "x" is the whole rest of the universe, which - as I understand - is psychologically much less tangible than "y". Any thoughts on (psychological, behavioural...) publications where the differences are captured and explained?
