Dear Colleagues, I attached to this question an extended abstract article (2 pages) in which I suggested a new approach for computer engineering curricula in universities in developing countries. I need your valuable assessment of the idea so the first page is a very short questionnaire (7 questions) for you to answer and send to me with thanks. Your extra comments put in the questionnaire itself or on this page are also welcomed.

Here is the abstract for a quick initial review.

Abstract:" Computer engineering is a discipline that best serves high tech semiconductors manufacturing which is generally not existing in developing communities. Hence, this article presents a technology enhanced learning curricula approach in which the students learning experiences are expanded on to a specific technology area which may serve developing communities needs better. The article revises the typical computer engineering curriculum model and visualizes it as a funnel structure, called the Single Funnel Model (SFM). The SFM directs the students to core computer engineering courses or courses in a specific concentration area. However, the necessity of concentration in developing communities with moderate tech industries in a country like Saudi Arabia is questionable. Hence, to better serve such communities, it is suggested to replace concentration areas by technology wide areas called Technology Expansion (TE) areas. Such a curriculum structure is called the Dual Successive Funnels Model (DSFM). TE aims to widen the student’s horizon on to a technology area that enhances the learning and may become his/her work area.

It is argued that the suggested DSFM, will have advantageous impacts on graduates’ performance and their professional competences, enforces ties with the industry, and be beneficial to it. Pros and cons of DSFM are discussed.".

To asses the problem and the idea a simple questionnaire form of 7 (objective) questions is available online for you to fill in and submit, with many thanks, at :
