How we can synthesize nanoparticles of ternary metal alloy like Fe-Co-Cr or Fe-Ni-Cr etc. by chemical methods without oxidation and aggregation?
but, can it be applied for Mn-based ternary alloy? I mean if i use EG as the polyol and carry out the reaction, can i get desired results? Or we have to use NaBH4 or LiAlH4 or hydrazine? first two we cant use because of boron and Al contamination, hydrazine can be used, but EG-hydrazine system can reduce Mn-acetate?
There is a method patented years ago by prof. Lopez-Quintela applicable to NdFeB. Check it out.

Yeah, I have many references for Fe-Co and Fe-Ni by polyol reduction and found that its a good method but don’t get any reference for ternary Fe-Co-Cr or Fe-Ni-Cr. I would appreciate if you please tell me same.

You are right. For some applications, boron is not good. so one need to search alternate for this. Mn acetate should be reduce but a optimum problem.
In any case, as far as I know the most convenient way of making these type of alloys is the combination of melt-spinning with cryo-milling, as published my Miller et al in J. Appl. Phys. 107 (2010) 09A313.

I agree with you, the ideal method should be based on solution/suspension freezing or, alternatively, from picosecond or femtosecond laser ablation. The problem with the latter methods is that they break down the alloy into its constituents thus a nano powder mixture of the metals would be then obtained which should be subjected to an alloying process. This is problematic, to say the least.
Another alternative is to perform nanosecond pulsed laser ablation, which entails melting and evaporation, usually yielding 3-20 nm particles when the pulse width is below 5 ns (even below 9 ns).
I have been trying chemical methods to synthesize Fe, Co and Mn and Sn based ternary alloys for last one years and I found that for nanoscale, magnetic and other properties vary widely and hardly any match found with bulk alloys. I must say that, chemical methods for ternary alloys are no match for mechanically alloyed product, though in later, you can't expect nanosized particles.

Could you please give me some information about what effect you get in particular property with comparison to bulk. What was the approx particle size.? How you controlled the oxidation during the synthesis..?
