What do you think about labs equipments that are used to help understanding the telecommunication theory for undergraduate students. For Example, Emonsa Instruments (tims telecommunications), have you used in your labs, do you recommend any other systems for undergraduate electrical engineers

In my opinion, buying off-the shelf equipments serves the purpose very well. But in the long term it is not advantageous. First reason is the service support. If something goes bad, either one has to pay heavy cost of repairs or keep waiting for the service support to arrive. In many occasions, we end up servicing the equipments at the end of teaching period or in the next semester or year when we needed it now. Second reason is that in a very short span of 2-3 years the suppliers tend to UPGRADE their products with MODERN and LATEST TECHNOLOGY!!!! With this, they (suppliers) make our old equipments as outdated and NO SERVICE SUPPORT is available.
All these leads to a frustrating investments. Therefore, it is better that the faculty member themselves develop the experimental setups using locally available components and resources. This approach is not only COST SAVING but also help building your laboratories.
