There are some features that can be detected remotely that could be useful when locating or modifying construction of buildings related to land stability as associated to geologic features as plate tectonics, earthquake zones, areas with sinkholes, various landform strikes/dips, shear lineaments, unstable landforms, etc. Remote sensing now also includes LiDAR, a tool that has many potential uses including locating some remote developments of historic interests including Mayan temples hidden by dense forest canopies. But above all, pick something that interests you.

I see a need for detecting air leakage from or into buildings. we can measure how airtight buildings are but finding the holes in the designated airtight plane is a challenge. I saw this technology working at the Passive Haus conference in Munich a few years ago https://ultragraphyx.com/utiliteitsbouw-industrie/, how cool would it be to do this with remote sensing, especially on existing buildings.

Having written a Masters thesis in 2014, my suggestion is narrow the topic significantly. Although remote sensing is not my area of expertise, I stay familiar with the topic because of the growth of the electronics in building construction. Engineering News Record magazine in the US is constantly displaying new remote analysis tools for contractors to track workers on the job site, for example. I would suggest that some of the increase in electronic monitoring of workers, as an example of remote sensing might or might not be efficient and useful. I would suggest that separating the signal from the noise of data collection might be a topic to ask users about in Italy. How many builders in Italy are using remote sensing of workers? Is it producing useful data?

To add to the useful answers so far: specifically bridge movement, subsidence; I believe one can even have sensors in wallpaper, definitely in concrete which can help with advance problem detection. There will be many applications and on a general level in connection with Intelligent Buildings when extrapolated to say 2050 there will probably be sensors everywhere linked to automated controls. This will augur a science fiction type of world brought to reality. There will be sensors in our bodies linked to nanobots, I think. Of course Environment Management Systems will be considerably linked and driven by sensors and algorithms then activating appropriate action to control the internal environment as well as external features.

The process of choosing the topic, it depends on interest and inspiration. If you have an interest in any type of specific buildings, you can choose the topic accordingly. Sometimes a student gets inspired by someone's work or the situation.

You can research on:-

Remote sensing on Heritage buildings, Underwater Buildings, any specific landform, Bunkers, Remote sensing in climate change, Role of remote sensing in environmental projects, etc.

How about researching Smart Built Environments (SBEs), i.e. trying to understand issues around integration of building information modelling (BIM), CAFM (computer aided facilities management) and BMS (building management systems), in terms of intelligent decision making based on remote sensing data in buildings?

I think you need to be more precise for which technology are you studying like Drone /Lidar...etc or combination . And exactly for what purpose- considering the site location, requirements etc
