Typically, Cloud can be used to process data form smart grids and to dal with large amount of histroical data to find patterns either for existing attacks on the grid or to find out about systems behaviour of e.g. customers or the ageing infrastructure.

Actually I am looking to design a smart resource selection in smart grid, which will be beneficial for electricity provider and consumer to select the optimize available source of energy. The smart resource selector will be integrated to via cloud. The optimum level of operation / consumption will be conveyed to power producer and user respectively.

I will also recommend you on Virtual power plant based cloud architecture because it's the growing trend in the industry. Resource allocation, optimized energy loss utilization are other important factors. And Fyi the virual power plants have localized generation as a part of it and utilization of energy in the local geographical area itself brings the intelligence in the grid and your so called optimized source of energy is broought in to the picture. 

So, far I haven't come across computing cloud applications for Smart Grid. In fact, power utilities are so conservative when it comes to use cloud based services instead of using their own systems and applications. Having 15 year experience in power utilities, this sector always lag behinds the latest trends in IT. It always takes time for this sector to accept, digest and comply to latest IT technologies. Till now, and for almost a course of 10 years, still power utilities struggling to accept/implement applications integration according to IEC 61968/IEC 61970, CIM, SOA ...etc. guidelines. Once again, the shift to the idea architectural reference model of SG shall takes relatively longer than how it would have taken in any other sector such as banking or even transport. So, definitely for cloud, it may take 7-10 years at least.

Finally, I bet you may find some useful resources on cloud applications  for power utilities at ORACLE website, if my memory still precise.  

Cim has really ramped up in the last two years - I have been working with it since 2004 and I agree that utilities took the slow road - but due to complexity , Utilities now really see the need and at European TSO level, ENTSO-E forces tehm to use it. Hi, Syed Abrar. If you want to implement a real cloud computing framework for your smart grid, I think, Amazon Web services platforms are the good one to start with. Install the CLI and use CLI commands to do whatever you want.
