In a situation where we need to monitor in real time the rider performance on a bicycle in a velodrome or a horse condition in a race, this requires the wireless connectivity end to end.
Quite often, the WSN nodes have a serial or a virtual serial over USB port. You can use this to connect to a computer, a (WiFi) gateway with a USB port, or even to Raspberry Pie. Then you can use a serial to TCP/IP forwarder software, often available for the platform. Or write a simple one yourself. Occasionally there are extension or programming boards with an Ethernet or WiFi port, that can be used in forwarding mode. All this really depends on the platform that you are using.
