I know that the change from Gromacs 4 to 5 changed quite a few things, but I believe gromacs is set up to be backwards compatible am afraid that I do not know what the settings that would need to be changed.
Hi Alexander! You can not make the version 5 to run in the same manner as the version 4, because each version was developed by different group of developers. According to each time-frame of development new CPU/GPU accelerators were taken into consideration while developing codes, new computer and GPU architectures. Furthermore, older versions had bugs and they were fixed in newer version. New bugs were "added" to newer versions. I would suggest you to read about differences in various versions of gromacs-codes and then you'll understand what I meant. ;-) Those versions with all information about them and changes are available at gromacs.org
Yes, you are right!. They are backward compatible. But what do you mean by "FORCE" here? You can analyze the trajectories built GROMACS later 4 in GROMACS 5 versions as well.
But, as Inna Ermilova mentioned, it is always better to use an updated version to improve your findings.
