Is there a way to determine the loss of steel rebar cross-section in a corrosion affected RC structure with time?

The loss of steel cross-section with time will be useful to evaluate its capacity as a function of time.

There were some works by Melchers on this. In particular for chloride induced corrosion. But, to be honest, the dispersion and uncertainty in any prediction is so large, it becomes more important than the mean, from a safety viewpoint.
