In interfacial polymerization of aniline in presence of CNT you need to use an organic solvent(usually CHCl3) and aqueous medium. So the polymerization reactions will be taking place at the interface of both solvents. Prior to polymerization aniline molecules will get adsorbed on CNT molecules and it will grow in size with reaction time.
but in self assembly process conducting polymer will get coated on the core shell of CNT using poly electrolytes. This technique provides several advantages over the conventional method, such as simple processing, the ability to control thickness at
both organic and aqueous solvents will use for the interfacial polymerization, then the polymerization will take place at the interface. self assembly process and in situ polymerization are different processes. U may refer the following paper to know more about self assembly process
