Yes, PtG and PtL will play an increasing role in future mobility. These are technologies to convert energy from sustainable resources, which are not constant (or controlable) available, like solar energy or wind energy. A mayor role will play the development of efficient conversion processes, to reach competitive, economic targets. In scenarios, where crude-oil based fuel becomes more expensive, PtG / PtL technologies will become more and more attractive. 

E-mobility will also find its place in future transportation - especially in urban areas - because of advantages like no local emissions, reduced noise, the possibility of integration into smart grids / smart city architectures, etc. 

It seems, that the mobility of the future will base on a higher number of different propulsion technologies and energy storage concepts than today.

In my oppinion power to gas is only reasonable for the reduction of shotdowns of e.g. wind farms due to its bad efficiency. This results in reduced operating hours and therefore has a bad influence to the economic aspects.

I think, PtG/PtL will also not have the efficiency to compete with petrol within the next two or three decades but for some special applications which can´t be covered by conventional soultions. Such as long time energy storage, e.g. to shift the over supply during summer to winter months. Due to the massive costs of such projects, quick cocknition in this field is not to be expacted.King regards,Moritz

Thanks to José, Mario and Moritz for their answers and sorry for my late reaction. Do you know the company Sunfire? They increased the efficiency on the way from e-Power to liquids up to 70%! They say, the production costs of one liter of PtL-Diesel would be around 1 €. That already reaches the costs, consumers would accept. The only problem seems to be taxes! Yes, the cost for 1 liter of Diesel (around 35 Euro-cents) is much lower, but oil is limited and the costs of environmental damages are not included!!
