A bit more refined: two 100 nF capacitors (one at the input, one at the output) are the minimum to prevent the 7805 from oscillating. Adding some µF at the input and output will help improving output voltage "quality" (reducing ripple), if you do not have a constant load. And no - microprocessors are NOT considered a constant load !
