Is it ideal to use a Monochromatic LED Strip Light for Plant Photophysiology research?
I want to use a LED Panel for Plants but it is not available here in the Philippines. I am planning to use the LED Strip Light as my improvise light for studying the growth and development response of plant.
Is it ideal to use this LED Strip Light? And, accepted this kind of light equipment in the scientific community?
Yes, sole LED can mimic natural light to ensure the growth and development of photosynthetic organisms. You can change the intensity and wavelength to manipulate plant metabolism. The problem is about intensity. to reach 1500 uEm-2s-1 in order to saturate photosynthesis you may do it by red or white leds from auotomotive market like http://it.rs-online.com/web/p/led-visibili/9076693/ or http://hortsci.ashspublications.org/content/43/7/1951.full , led strips are adequate for some understory plant type
It may be interesting to use LED lamps that generate light intensity comparable to light intensity generated by fluorescent tubes for plant tissue culture. Even LED tubes if manufactured may be useful.
