I have experienced in several places that students tend to try to dictate what teachers ought to do and discipline and respect of the rules are often challenged. I also notice that people in leadership (major firms, bank, politics, etc.) often return in higher education to pursue a PhD for the sake of the title rather than with the intention to switch careers. The danger is that genuine knowledge and genuine scholars may be lost in the ocean of graduates. Also the extrinsic motivation (for a title, or a degree) could lead to an increase in academic dishonesty in this digital age. What do you think?
