If ecological system includes its physical (as well as the chemical) and biological components, the biological will not exist without its operative life processes including trace activities as footprints. So they reflect what happens within the system, the interactions. Productivity is falls within the ecosystem study. Splitting hair by removing the purpose from the process reduces the value.

Ecological footprint always gives us new directions to our research mandates and for further various agro ecological practices at what extent we can interfere the ecosystem
@Vaibhav, so when are we getting the right model? I mean when we the right model that captures ecological footprints coming or we are going to continue re-packaging Kuznet curve and pretend we are working on ecological footprints.
I agree with Tahreer Kazaal. Footprint measures the impact of human activities on ecosystems/environment and NOT a measure of ecosystem
