Chalk and board teaching I understand is the best way to teach.I still remember a teacher who just wrote one word on the power point and spoke extempore for an hour. That draws attention of the listener who is awestruck by the clarity of his teachers' knowledge and the easy,happy way of expressing it . More so I want to know if interaction in the midst of a lecture is ok. Should it be allowed. At least I allow that moments, doubt to clear from my students, mindbecause small doubts not cleared at that very moment lands them in trouble waters later on in life, or as a doctor in future. Please give feedback.
pp presentation is a good tool to enhance students learning if it is used in a correct way I mean the teacher dhould not only read what was written in the slides but explain it with the students sevond it is good way to show yhem videos and pictured snd even jokes
Overall ,it is not a bad idea for teaching as you can teach more in less time along with the fine & easy diagrammatic presentation as in case of complex figure.
As a teacher I use PPT a lot and would recommend it but the purpose of the PPT should be clear and not just a replacement for the chalk and talk method. Preparing a PPT can solidify knowledge and understanding of the topic you are going to teach. PPT also allows you to present the information in a number of different forms which will help students with different learning styles to access and remember the information. We shouldn't become focused on the method but on the content.
One additional point for medical students it would take me half the lesson to draw a reasonable diagram of any part of the body but it would take only a few seconds to find and cut and paste an image into a PPT. Clarity and time are some of the main benefits.

It depends! There are Power Point Presentations that are made so good that the audience feels perfectly fine of watching them without sleeping (sleep is the major "side effect" in the lectures). It also depends on what it is available to project the lecture... If the classroom is big with much light coming in, it will be difficult for the students to watch the presentation. The voice of the lecturer etc. Blackboard is acceptable even in nowadays but if the lecturer knows how to use correctly a PPT, then the outcome is the best. There are many internet sites that suggest ways of presenting lectures (what colors you should choose, what fonts are the best etc). Good luck with your presentations.

The aid should be used according to the topic of lecture. Each and every audio-visual aid has its own plus and minus points. In the classes of Anatomy, the superficial topics can be explained effectively by using chalk and board but when we have to teach deeper parts of brain like hypothalamus, lentiform nucleus, its better to chose PPT. 3 dimensional viewmakes the topic easy to explain as well understand by new undergraduate students.
Its the capability of lecturer to use PPT i a best and prescribed way.
I agree with Kusum and Gary. For Anatomy I would rather find the perfect image to explain and take advantage of those without names to test the knowledge of the students. It would take me too long to draw those diagrams, as well; besides, my class is of 150 people, I doubt those at the last rows would see anything at all. On the other hand I'm beginning to try prezi, which gives a panoramic view of that structure or system or whatever the class is about and then takes the students into a deeper view with more detail. These new boys and girls are used to images and movement, the get bored very fast, so I think we should evolve with them. BA

I think both the techniques i.e. Power point presentation and Chalk with duster have its importance. Like If we have to teach the metabolism in biochemistry then better to go with PPT as long formula/figures takes much time and there is chance of error in remembering every formula or diagram while chalk and dusters are good for discussion mode of teaching like we have to tell the definition or classification etc.Power point reduces the work of teacher in comparison to Chalk and duster.
Yes certainly. Only the teacher should be though with the topic. It makes learning interesting as well as interactive.
I think that e-learning techniques, including a PowerPoint presentation, can be useful for joining a university medical class in the first year, but the presentation should focus on the amount of information without discussing and absorbing it by students.
