We have chosen not to ask the 'expected' questions but rather to present the candidates with scenanrios which enable them to demonstrate their communication and problem solving skills. As we are interviewing students for BSC Nursing Child we ask e.g. You see a 4year old child being smacked what are your thoughts on this. We would expect candidates to present an infomred discussion on the rights of the child and parents, current political stance, alternative methods of behaviour management etc. The usual questions re expectations of their role as a nurse we ask them to present in a written paper so that we can assess their written communication.
In England we have recently had a strategy titled *Compassion in practice” which sets out the six C`s – care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment. See:
It may be helpful to form the questions around these six areas as they are considered the values and behaviours that are inherent in al branches of nursing.
Have not done the structuring part so far.But yes in addition to the foundation of "The 6 Cs" Advocay would have to be tested. It is essential element of a proactive nurse's role .
