There are reports which show the band gap as  direct and some reports  show indirect  based on fitting of ' n'  in Tauc's relation. Normally, the materials used for optoelectronics like GaAs have direct band gap and Si, Ge etc. have indirect band gap ( Based on Band Theory). Theoretical calculations  predict one type or the other type.
