We are in process of planning the training needs for nurses in our general hospital. A group of senior nurses from different specialities invited to attend one day workshop to suggest the training needs of clinical nurses.
Personally, nurses often need support on specific issues. For this reason, in the hospital, a specialist consultancy system should be composed of trained nurses. For example, wound care nurse, stoma care nurse, infection control nurse, etc.. Thus, case control is easier to follow in the hospital, the nurses feel safe themselves, does not feel insufficient. Communication increases, and becomes continuous. That is usefully about workshop.
I have worked in General Medical & Surgical Wards of a large General Hospital. In my experience - meticulous application of Nursing Process Steps has helped me and other nurses to render wholesome health care to all categories of patients. As the individual human being has all kinds of needs, Nursing Process concepts help in need-identification & need-based comprehensive care.
Let the nurses attend nursing convention and seminars that will help them gain and learn new knowledge and information regarding issues arising in nursing practice and send them to selected regional and specialized hospitals to have a complete training. This is the practice that we've been doing in the Philippines.
Thank you Fatma, I agree with your idea of sub speciality in units. The effectiveness of specialized nurses are more tangible. The training needs for those nurses is clearly distinguished as well as cost effective.
Dear Rochita, is the training in the hospital you mentioned is a formal training courses or just having experience in certain field. Can you give us example from your experience.
Excellent and relevant question still today. I agree with suggestions to allow resources for external opportunities for education and training. I would add that we must ensure effective communication and recognition of a gender-based analysis of the nursing profession and how it impacts training needs. Here are a few references to the work we did on training and communication to nurses during an infectious disease outbreak. All the best with your work, Eileen
