I made crosses in different types of peanuts, and I was studding the F 1 and F 2 populations. In your opinion, the best way of conventional plant breeding to study the progeny in peanuts was according to the growth conditions of this plant, (vegetative, reproductive) should be considered?
To develop superior peanut varieties requires a focus on yield, quality and defensive reactions. I would suggest you would consider that all your plantings should be inoculated with Rhizobia in your evaluations.
The best results is to tailor the development under conditions like those prevailing in proposed zone of usage. Consult soil scientists and have soil analysis promoted and seek to get optimized uniform field conditions.
If you grow you peanuts behind a perennial grass plot or history this will help give optimum peanut conditions. For high yield evaluation raised beds with uniform drip irrigation would provide a high yielding environment with excellent weed control.
For the development of high yield the varieties would employ evaluation sites which have high yield potential with few constraining factors.

In terms of determining superior varieties conventionally generally uses the pedigree breeding method which is mostly used for self pollinated crops like peanut.

Hand crossing is usually used and this might be facilitated by the use of genetic markers for identifying the positive crosses in terms of successful pollination and recombinations. As you reach a F3, F4 and F5 generations the size of test plots increase in size and the number of replicates.
Determining the field designs and strategy for testing and making them efficient and effective all need consideration. Standard operating procedures and statistical criteria are very important.
There are breeding programs in ICRISAT in peanut I believe the state of Florida and I think Georgia maybe good sources of basic information.
