Hello Augustine, the two -omics serve different purposes depending on what information you are interested in. Ecosystem sustainability studies, as you put it, entail a lot. Since microorganisms are not the only biotic components of an ecosystem, metagenomic studies alone will not provide satisfactory information. Metabolomic studies are concerned with metabolites of organisms at the Dalton scale, and is important to people like me in production biotechnology.
