I worked on the adsorption of the methylene blue, the malachite green and the congo red by diatomite. In the regeneration part, I treated the diatomite loaded with the dyes by using the following eluents HNO3, HCl, NaOH and ethanol. The obtained results indicated that the methylene blue is desorbed in the acidic and basic environment, the congo red is desorbed only in the ethanole and for the malachite green no desorption has been observed.
Can someone helps me to interpret these results? Thank you in advance
That depended on the natural of catalyst surface and the used dye.....
If the surface treated by NaOH the OH - will adsorb on surface the dye will repulsive from surface because the ion pair on donor metal will repulsive with oH-......................
First of all, I would like to thank you for your answer. the desorption mechanism in my case is very far from the desorption by the principle photocatalytic degradation. I have three questions .
The first question is why the methylene blue desolated in basic and acid solution even if it is a cationic dye? the second question is why the malachite green does not dissolve in any solution even if it is also a cationic dye, and the last question is why the congo red desolated only in the ethanole?
Depending on the nature of the absorbent/adsorbent-to-surface bond, there is a multitude of mechanisms for desorption. The surface bond of a sorbent can be cleaved thermally, through chemical reactions or by radiation, all of which may result in the desorption of the species.
