I want to electrodeposite metal oxide, say MnO2 on a carbon current collector.What are the different techniques? How to decide the potential window for the electrodeposition? I have consulted different literature where different potential window have been used.
You can deposite by many techniques such as chrono-amperometry, chrono potentiometry, cyclic voltammetry, pulse method, etc. electrodeposition occurs when the ions in the electrolyte solution get oxidized or reduced irreversibly. the electrode surface provides the active sites for this electrodeposition. For determining the potential for electrodeposition, you have to run CV first to see the oxidation-or reduction potential (peak will appear). If you apply potential higher than this oxidation or reduction potential, there will be spontaneous electrodeposition on the surface. you can also apply high +ve or -ve current for some time for chronoamperometric deposition. Otherwise, you can give current or potnential pulse for non spontaneous deposition. There are many more things, which I can not complete in one answer. You have to read some books for details.
