I strongly believe that earning factor and need is playing major role in crop selection by most the farmers and thereby many plants are being neglected. What is your opinion in this regards?
I consistently work in plant science from past 10 years. I agree with your point the crop economics and the need, are the main factors for commercial agriculture. So that other species of plants have been neglected inturn its commercialization needs to be taken care otherwise production system of these crops will decline.
Thank you H.N. Prasad ji for adding your points into this. We all must have think for their means of commercialization and at the same time we have maintain the diversity too. More research in this line are to be carried out and have to sort out some location specific combinations of the crops cosidering selection of plants with varied degree of their gestation period so that failure of one crop will inturn be recovered by other crops having next higher rotation or gestation period. I meant to say, crop architecture based on geatation period of different crops considering their importance.
Good question and agreed with Dr. Sarkar. Selection of crop depend upon various (Soil, environment, market, etc.) among them economic is most valuable. Apart from them lack of awarness about crop variety and availability is affecting the selection if crop.
Exactly what I meant. Thanks a lot Gopal Shukla Sir. We all have to have a very extensive kind of work to make aware of the crops or variety or technologies to the farmers. Unless they come forward and lend their hands in adopting situation based developed technologies or breeds, they will obviously stick only to the economics or ernings and vice versa. Raising single crop of their choice will have maximum chances of crop failure due to unconditional natural calamities.
Yes, many a time, selection of crops depends on last year’s price.....when previous year’s price is high for a particular crop farmers are encourage to take that crop.....however, there is also a cyclic nature in price and farmers usually fall prey to that.
Growing crops is just like any other economic activities. The grower is always looking for the highest profit. This determine his targeted crops. Also his needs play another factor. So, needs and economic return are primary factors.
