The shape and structure of plant cells are affected by allelochemicals. Volatile monoterpenes, eucalyptol and camphor can widen and shorten root cells, in addition to inducing nuclear abnormalities and increasing vacuole numbers. At the ultrastructural level by means of electron microscopic study, chromosomes of lettuce root tips were less condensed during mitosis in artemisinin-treated than control meristematic cells.

The probable reason why you cannot find much pertinent information in English is that France, Brazil and Japan are the countries that currently work most on the topic. Not all of their publications however are translated in English.
France seems to concentrate on agro-forestry with center the University of Savoie, Japan is concerned with rice and soy, while Brazil works on a wider selection of crop varieties (yet, you will need some translation from Portuguese).
