My article has recently been accepted to the IEEE journal and my supervisor warned me that IEEE is now the owner of my paper and therefore, it should not be published anywhere else unless there is at least 40% changes to it. However I would still like to send it to the persons that show interest by asking for full pdf on ResearchGate which I get noticed of via email. I was wondering if there is any way to send the article to that specific person via ResearchGate?
To transfer the copyright to IEEE you have to sign a copyright form, it's a good idea to actually read it:

Basically, you retain the right to make digital or hard copies for personal or classroom use if the copyright notice is on the paper, so there is no problem to give it out.
You may also put it online, but not the final version (with possible editing by IEEE staff) but your final accepted version. IEEE revised its policy for this:

You can upload it to research gate then ask them to refer to your page to obtain the journal.
Wouldn't that mean 'publishing to research gate'? I don't want every to download it just the persons I approve.

I suppose most of the publishers allow sharing your article with Colleagues. Hence, you may be able to send a copy to your friend. I welcome any suggestions regarding this.
I think to water the needs on academic ground through research contributions, enriching through sharing knowledge, encouraging through discussions had never been a sin or would never prove one a victim..

To me ,if you want to have a paper that has a highest citation , it is better to be open access journal. In such a case so many people have this opportunity to peer reviewing and referring to it.
I personally think that you should wait to publish your paper first because people may misuse your data & concept. let it get published.
you can easily share your paper by dropping a personal mail, first you should ask him to mail you that he is not going to make it publicly open by any mean. then only you may send him your paper.
you can also request to have co-ownership, and or modify the agreement by striking the areas you don't like, requesting the ability to repost in academic settings, etc. I have done this many times. some organizations don't like it but they eventually settle if they really like your paper...
one can directly email the copy of the paper keeping good faith in the aspirant! Ultimately its for the entire society....as for Indian age old tradition point of view is concerned:: all should live in peace with satisfaction and grow equally!!!!
