I am trying to read metadata file (*MTL.TXT) of Landsat 8 in python 2.7.12. I have written few functions. I want to return only specific values back or may be store them in global variable so that i can access them outside the function. Inside the function i am able to access those specific values. My aim is to convert DN values to reflectance.
You can declare global variable earlier outside the function, in the main scope. Then, you can modify its value inside the function using the "global" keyword, something like this:
x = 'None!'
def func_A():
global x
x = 'A'
return x

If you want to convert DN values to reflectance, the easiest way would be using the Semi-Automatic Classification Plugin (https://fromgistors.blogspot.com/p/semi-automatic-classification-plugin.html) for QGIS (http://www.qgis.org/en/site/). There is also GRASS GIS (https://grass.osgeo.org/), which has the i.landsat.toar command (https://grass.osgeo.org/grass72/manuals/i.landsat.toar.html) that can do this task.
