In many cities we have existing CI pipes with lead joints, These CI pipes served for about 60 to 70 years but still in good condition to serve. We are replacing these pipes with DI just to avoid water pollution by lead joints. A innovative technique to identify the lead joints and replacing with gasket/flanged joints will drastically reduce the investment of water utilities
This is a topic worthy of pursuit that is often neglected by: out of sight--out of mind. The Flint Michigan disaster reached a settlement just this week, which should be a grim reminder of how important this is. Replacement of lead components must be smart, prompt, and thorough. In many cities, parts of the system have been replaced, while others remain long afterward because nobody wants to dig them up. There are some innovative solutions currently in use and we hope more soon to come!
