These are netcdf files. Matlab have built in functions like ncread, ncinfo, ncdisp etc.

which may be of your use.

See the variables:

ncdisp('YourFileName.nc') % displays the variables info

Then read the variable of interest:

VariableRead = ncread('YourFilename.nc', 'VariableName');

It can merge your files and extract your time series from merged files.
