I am in my way to develop a medical diagnosing system and want to make it self learning which is a feature of Artificial intelligence . A program that incorporate one of the self-learning features, which stores patient information to tell to the patient his history when he come back again. I am totally new to prolog programming So I need your help, and also if you can tell me some quick references in the subject matter Pls.
A Prolog program can only assert new fact and rules in the knowledge base, not exactly learning. You need a database to recover the patient data, it has nothing to do with learning. Then you may build a Prolog program reasoning with facts derived from the patient data database.
I totally agree with Giovanni. Asserting new facts is not practically. You need to develop strong knolwedge-base. In Prolog, rules also could be used as facts, to some extent this help developing intelligent solution. Meta programming also could provide good solution for you.
The first step is to to design a meaningful knowledge-base (set of predicates) and represent all of existing knowledges as prolog facts. (It will be very valuable is to automate translation between existing data and prolog facts using other languages)
The second step is to write a prolog-based rules to decide when patient needs to come again based on existing facts. for example, a rule can look like this: - a patient needs to visit if he/she has not visited for 1 month and he/she is not cured yet. to do more complex (non-trivial) cases you might need to consider recursive rules.

Giovanni De Gasperis, as you said I will have a separate database for the patient history information (not the fact and rules). But the program should use the patient history to tell patients current status.
