NUE is calculated as a ratio between nitrogen used and harvest and a higher number denotes low wastage. It is the fraction of applied nitrogen that is absorbed and used by the plant.
Nitrogen use efficiency can be improved by adopting following
1. Fertilizer,
2. Soil,
3. water, and crop management practices. That will maximize crop N uptake, minimize N losses, and optimize indigenous soil N supply. increase crop utilisation of soil N ('soaking up' excessive N) reduce fertiliser inputs, via better predictions of current soil N status using deep soil sampling prior to sowing. The less amount of nitrogen that is used by a crop the more efficient it can be considered to be. Furthermore, the NUE is affected by many factors including soil properties, management practices, and environmental conditions.
