I'm undergraduated Civil Engineer. I want to pursue my post graduate degree on structural engineering. So would you please provide me some suggestions to find proper research topic for my thesis, related to structural engineering. How to prepare my proposal to submit to the professor ?

There are so many research fields in structural engineering. To choose a proper research topic for your post graduate degree thesis, you should comply with the following guides:
- First of all, what you like and want to work in, and later be specialized in.
- Is there any funds for the work ? Can some company give you the many that you need it to complete the research ?
- What about the laboratory in your university ? what are it's possibility to make you achieve the tests needed.
- Are there softwares ?
- The trends of your supervisor.
- Your scientific background.
- Are there any structural problems in your society ?
- Did you meet and talk with older students about their works ?

You have in general two possible paths of your "scientific career".
1. “University research” based on stupid assumptions – usually useless, but easy to publish and to present as “valuable contribution” in scientific discussions (even with worthless results). More “useless” it is, less risk of negative verification in practice.
2. Solving real problems that you see around you – this way may bring some profit to the society and personally to you (people usually get paid for solving real problems). You may also learn a lot. There is only one concern. Scientists, who have chosen the first way will always try to diminish value of your findings, pointing the applicability of your results as “not enough scientific”. Jealousy is present in every culture :-).

check yourself. are you master in computer programming, handling latest software, knowledge of any one computer language( eg FORTRAN),THEN GO FOR ANALYSIS ,DESIGN OF COMPLEX ENGINEERING PROBLEM APPLYING MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE AND PROGRAMMING KNOWLEDGE., BE SURE THAT TOPIC SHOULD BE OF YOURS INTEREST AND NOT FORCED BY YOUR GUIDE
