While reading about high technological topics like dynamic scheduling in FMS in the context of Industry 4.0, being an Industrial Engineer, I find it very difficult to study about handling dynamic environment with codes. At the same time, I think this research topic is a hot area for research.
When I read about lean management tools such as value stream mapping. I find it easy. At the same time, I think this research topic is already being implemented everywhere and research papers are available with case studies.
Which topic should I choose? (trending+difficult vs easy+already implemented)
Hello Nidhi, I believe the decision should not only be based on research opportunities but also on your own preferences. I usually advise students choosing dissertation topics to think about where the see themselves in the future. What type of job do you want to get? What career do you want to pursue?. Whether your topic is new or old and tested there will always be gaps to fill in and opportunity for theoretical/practical contributions. It all comes down to what you would enjoy the most.
Hello Nidhi Chirania the same question was raised in myself also before I start the research then I discussed about it with my Supervisor and finalized once upon a time only the Traditional Techniques are used for solving many problems in industries with best effect/result during the 2 nd and 3rd revolution of the industry now we are in modern world (industry 4.0) so we must utilize and apply the new technology in our research due to the current situation. so i planned utilize the both techniques in our research like the Traditional Techniques are used to Solve the problem of the industries that output / results are produced to the input of the new technology then we generate the new model for the Current situation 4th revolution of industry (Industry 4.0) then produced the best solution of that problems .

It all depends upon the need of the industry. There are few industry where basic lean manufacturing concepts are not applied, therefore, implementing the lean concepts is of high priority there. Further, the industry can plan for industry 4.0 and other advanced implementation processes. In India i think first the industries should concentrate on lean manufacturing processes as they cost less but profit more.

Industry 4.0 practices are standardized, dynamic scheduling etc. will be the requirements for automatized factories. Coming to your problem as to what will be good for study, my answer would be we need to know both the aspects to understand better the new tools and techniques in Mfg. With automation, IoT, Machine learning are becoming popular one needs to understand at least one aspect of the present scenario of industry properly (may be depending on your interests in research) and other peripheral aspects superficially or at least the basics of them.
