The general term for thermal efficiency is the absolut value of the work generated divided by the heat input. You will then get a fraction which describes how much of the heat is converted to work.
In general terms the thermal efficiency is defined as the useful output you get out of a system divided by the energy consumed by the system to generate that useful output.
