I and my colleague trying to calculate approximate GHG emissions of several power plants. Dataset we have contains only their annual kWh and fuel type (coal, gas, etc). We wanted to use method given in IPCC guideline, but we could not find data about their annual fuel consumption. Therefore we could not use it. We also do not know their efficiency. But we want some simple and reliable method with good approximation. What do you suggest?

If you don't have specific data for a power plant and know the age of the technology you can always use the harmonized efficiency values available from the EU. Here's a direct link:

If it don't work, try searching for 2011/877/EU or harmonized efficiency values at the official journal of the european union website (or google it)
In case you have cogeneration you'll find DIRECTIVE 2012/27/EU useful. It also contains the calculation methodology used in oficial reporting. Again, if you don't have data for a specific power plant, using this methodology makes your calculations and assumptions transparent.
