I read that methane stored in ice caps,bogs ,oceans will get released in absence of air and ultimately will result into the increased temperature of earth. In such case temperature will be so high that any carbon material will get burnt when exposed to surrounding.
Organic carbon is converted biologically to carbon dioxide in the presence of air and methane in anerobic conditions, i.e. no oxygen available because air is not present.
Anerobic conditions exist under ice sheets, in bogs, and on the ocean floor in special circumstances. Removal of the ice sheets allows those deposits to warm and increase the rate of production of methane, which is then released to the air where it is eventually oxidised to carbon dioxide.
