I am intending to use the leaf porometer to measure the stomatal conductance for my greenhouse experiment. Can anyone suggest about the accuracy and precision of data obtained from them.
I have used potable meter Delta Cambridge I think hitherto this device is the best for rapid measurements....... However, anatomical alteration in stomata dimensions caused by stresses are preferred in detection the variation among species and cultivars
I have a SC-1 leaf porometer by Decagon Devices. It is a simple, reliable and robust instrument, that guarantees accurate measurements. Just ensure that your instrument is properly calibrated before starting to work. Moreover, carefully take into account environmental conditions and the physiological state of the plants that you are going to measure, as well as every major variable that may significantly affect your data
I also have a (almost empirical) feeling the commercial SC-1 is pretty reliable. The measurements correlate quite nicely with measurements obtained with gas exchange equipment (or so I seem to remember, but can't validate).
In addition to calibration, remember to always change the desiccant. Even with fresh desiccant it is horribly slow to use, so take that into account if you have several plants to measure. I think it might take up to 10-15 min. to dry between measurements, depending on air humidity...
I´m using a LICOR equipment for mesasuring conductance and assimilation but exist a good porometer to get a good conductance measuring. Calibration is essential.
